Day of the dead altar

Continuing with our yearly tradition, the Oxford Mexican Society set up a Day of the Dead Altar, kindly hosted by the Ashmolean Museum this year.

This year’s altar is dedicated to some famous Mexicans who have become LGBT+ icons: Juan Gabriel, Chavela Vargas, Carlos Monsiváis and Frida Kahlo.

Thanks to the Ashmolean Museum for hosting us in parallel to their ‘No Offence’ exhibition, which explores the often overlooked or underrepresented LGBTQ+ histories, experiences and lives by examining objects from around the world.
